I am in the family way.
Here’s how I know:
1. Every evening after supper, I ask to be excused. I creep over to the couch where, I tell my husband, “I’ll only be a moment.” He smiles knowingly, has the kids clear all the dishes, and turns out the lights as they go upstairs.
2. The cravings for salty, greasy snack food have kicked in with a vengeance. If there’s a better way for me to deal with all this nausea, I should probably adopt it.
3. Last night at prayers, my children said, “We’re starting to see the baby!” Which made my husband grin. And me grimace. (See Item #2 in this list.)
4. And finally, I started to weep at the end of this very cheesy (but sweet) 80’s movie.
It was the scene where the dad reads this to his little girl:
You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond (from the editorial letter, “Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus” by Francis Pharcellus Church).
Wouldn’t you have cried?
Jane Ramsey says
Yes, I would have cried. But then, I always cry when Harry Bailey offers his toast, “to my big brother George, the richest man in town!” (It’s a Wonderful Life)
When pregnant it takes much less than that to make me cry…
So go ahead and enjoy a good cry, Margaret! 🙂

I think any woman who has suffered a miscarriage will testify to the joy you feel from all those experiences. I used to dread the evening sickness and fatigue that washed over me every night with my first three pregnancies. I relished it with my fifth! A friend of mine who has suffered mulitiple miscarriages describes it as “feeling wonderfully sick” and I know exactly what she means. Congratulations on your sickness and enjoy showing off that beautiful baby the best way you can right now!
P.S. I don’t even need to be pregnant to bawl like a baby at the slightest sappy scene. It just makes a good cover!

I agree … sickness is good (a healthy pregnancy). HAve you tried to load up on protein. That is usually a good thing for nausea (nuts, cheese, penaut butter, and meat).
I hope the morning sickness (or evening sickness) doesn’t go much past that first trimester.

Margaret,
I’m so happy you’re sick–and I mean that in the very best possible sense! 🙂 You just keep resting in the evenings–your husband and kids sound like jewels!! Lots of hugs and prayers for you during the nauseated first trimester…

Yes, sick is good when you are pregnant, it lets you know things are happening like they should! We like that sweet 80’s movie also, we have it and I, too, cry in every sappy scene, even cartoons, like Shrek!
