Disclosure: As a member of the Netflix Stream Team I receive special perks in exchange for my participation. As always, all opinions are my own!
Okay, I’ll be the first to admit it: The month of July’s becoming excessively balmy. “Go play outside,” I tell my kids, and yet inevitably they sneak back in…mere minutes seconds later…with complaints of “It’s hot!” and “Please please please can we have another popsicle?”
Yes, the AC is a welcome respite, and yes, that big screen TV is mighty invitin’. For that reason, I was thankful—nay, overjoyed—to receive this month’s prompt from the folks at Netflix with a downloadable passport for my armchair travelers.
It’s win-win all around: my kids have a cool new to-do on the table (“cool” is my extremely clever pun! cool as in air-conditioned! ha!) and I feel a little less guilty about their watching TV. On the contrary, we’ve got a great line-up for the month of August!
You can download your very own Netflix passport here. Once assembled, you’ve got all sorts of choices for world travel with your kids, such as:
A Cook Abroad (Rated G), with “trips” to Egypt, India, Argentina & France;
Tales by Light (Rated PG), with renowned photographers exploring far-flung locales;
Wild Alaska (Rated PG), with three 50-minute episodes exploring spring, summer & winter;
Wildest Latin America (Rated PG), with “extreme travel” from the snowy Andes to the sweltering Amazon;
Growing up Wild (Rated G), with five different baby animals from different parts of the world learning to survive in the wild, and
Dinotasia (Rated PG), a Jurassic destination for the dinosaur-loving viewers among you.
Now if you’re an overeager homeschooling mom like me, you can really geek out and print a couple maps per show. Honestly, I’ve seen those clips on those late-night shows where the average guy on the street can’t find London on the map. It drives me crazy! It drives me to Google Maps with my kids.
Happy almost-August, everyone!
