The “This Book, this Kid” Edition
I am having a blast with my almost-five-year-old. Gosh, I love this age! I really do.
The book Spiky, Slimy, Smooth is a current preschool favorite–one of the best “What is Texture” books I’ve read and believe me, this homeschooling mom has read a few.
Do check it out. The odds are good your library has it.
Meanwhile, as the mother of an almost-five-year-old, I’d like to remember forever the following conversation:
George: [looking forlorn and out of sorts]
Me: [pulling his head into my lap] Tell me all your problems, little man.
George: [sitting bolt upright and counting off on his fingers] OKAY. One, Angela. Two, Angela being mean. Three, Angela won’t play croquet with me. Four, Angela lies so so so much. She told me that red always goes first but her lied! I was red and she didn’t let me go first!
George: [pausing to think for a moment] And five, it’s super super hot.
George: Those are all my problems.
The delivery of this speech was delicious because George forgets to pronounce his s’s. As such, Angela lies “ho ho much” and the weather outside was “hoopa hoopa hot.”
60 degrees and the kid’s complaining?
He must not be a true Minnehotan.

Ah the hard life of an almost 5 year old. George, you made me chuckle. I agree, life is rough.
Btw, I remember when you were pregnant with George and reading here. My, where has the time gone??!!

Sometimes it's tough being a little guy. Thank you for sharing the texture book. Both of my preschool/toddler aged children would definitely be up for that!

Oh my, almost-five-year-old George has it rough. 😉 I got a kick out of his problems. Thanks for sharing them.
Please send us that hoopa, hoopa hot weather…. We haven't even seen 50 in a few weeks.

George and Angela must be like my 2 youngest—oil and water—you can mix them together for a little while, but they inevitably separate. And stay that way!
My 3rd also forgot his s's. I'll never forget his "That ho pitty!" (That's so pretty) and "That hoooo getty" (that's so scary—with obligatory hand motions). 😀 They're so cute. Enjoy those little guys!
