(Vol. XXXII for Me)
The Mother’s Day Giveaway Edition
Happy Almost Mother’s Day! In honor of each and every over-worked mother out there (you know who you are) I am dedicating this Quick Takes post to you. Got kids? You’re a hero.
Plus, you know, without them how would we get our laughs?
Like, the other day we went out for a walk. We passed a street with a “No Outlet” sign and one of the kids asked what that meant.
“It’s a dead end,” I told her.
“Oh!” she replied. “I thought it meant, like, there was no plug-in.”
I laughed. “No charging your cell phone down there!” I said.
Guess what? 4-month-old Francis has started giggling!
(Cheesy video edits warning.)
I asked my two teenaged sons if they knew what day Sunday was. They blinked at me. Neither of them had a clue.
“I’ll give you a hint,” I told them. “It starts with Mother’s and ends with Day.” This information made them squirm, of course. They knew full WELL that something was coming.
A poem, I told them. 7 stanzas. Get to work.
(The things these boys do for extra computer time.)
Conversely, my three little girls have been busy for days, making cards and designing envelopes and hanging “Do not disturb!” signs on their door.
It’s a Mars/Venus thing.
Here’s a fun question for you: if you were to describe yourself with two words and two words only, what would they be? Going with sort of a strength/weakness theme, mine would be Sassy Distractedness.
As in, I like to have fun. Fun! Fun! Fun!
As in, I like to have fun but do I get stuff done?
(Do not disturb!)
(I’m a work-in-progress.)
Alright. Here’s the very best part of this post. I would like to make a gift to you–two gifts, actually, if you play along. The first is a holy hour offered for your intentions. I’ll be making it on Mother’s Day–how providential!
The second is a care package sent to one lucky winner. It will have chocolate, of course, and a bag of GIANTS sunflower seeds because, deep down, I’m a North Dakota girl.
It will have a copy of this book. It will have lots of love tucked in.
You deserve it, Momma! Just leave a comment telling me your two words (see Quick Take Number 6) because, you know, we all have strengths and we all have weaknesses.
It’s what makes us mommas us.
Update: I need to close comments at midnight on Saturday! I’ll explain later. Thanks for understanding!!
Happy Almost Mother’s Day! Giveaway ends on Sunday Saturday at midnight with the winner announced on Monday by noon.
Oh, and for more Quick Takes, visit Jen!

I'd say kind and distractable
How come it is so much easier to come up with weaknesses? 🙂
Thank you so much for the holy hour!
J.C. says
Lazy Perfectionist–hmmm… maybe that's 2 weaknesses? 🙂 Thanks, Margaret, for the fun giveaway!

Great question, Margaret!

Hmmm…thoughtful sarcastic (darn that one)
Have a great Mother's Day! You could post "Diaper-head Francis" continuously and I would never get sick of it.
Jennie C. says
Short-tempered maker-of-excellent-coffee. That counts as two words, right? 🙂 Happy Mother's Day, Maggie!
Joy Beyond the Cross says
Hmmm…how about "Joyful Scatterbrained" 🙂
Quick story in how people react to Mother's Day (or other holidays for that matter) – right before Easter my DH said he needed to run to the store to get me an Easter card. I said "don't worry, I don't need an Easter card and I didn't get one for you either." He replied "what, I thought you liked cards?" I replied that I do (hello – love language is words of affirmation), but really there were only 4 days for which he would need to remember cards – Mother's Day, Anniversary, birthday, and Valentines Day. He once got me a Dr. Seuss card for my birthday early on in our marriage and signed it – Mr. B, literally…no love, Mr. B, no added commentary, no nothing. Dr. Seuss for goodness sakes and nothing else written on it! I cried and cried, I was so upset. I know, I know…I can be dramatic. I didn't even care that he didn't have a gift for me. The card meant everything. Amazing how our love languages play into how we react to things. Duh! But needless to say, I have gotten very nice cards since then. 🙂
Karen says
Organized bossy

I think laughing babies might be my love language. Thank you for posting #3. 🙂
My two words: Loving Critic. How's that for an oxymoron?
I'm soooooo allergic to sunflower seeds, but all my favorite relatives have roots in North Dakota! My mother thinks it's all in my head, but alas, it is not!
Janine says
Today I'll go with tired and hopeful. Tomorrow is another day…
Thanks for the give away and Happy almost Mother's Day.
Nancy says
Sincere procrastinator! How's that for honesty??? BTW, you had me with the sunflower seeds!
Roxaline says
Mine would be….. Pratient Mess! Lol!
Ellen says
Empty Nest. My baby is almost 24 and has lived away for two years. And he won't be home for Mother's Day. But he will be home next weekend to visit family visiting from England and to see my mom before she has open heart surgery on the 23rd.
Judy says
"Quick tounge". And there is nothing better than knowing in 4 months I get those good giggles as I am in the throws of a term pregnancy…thanks!

I know someone else already used it, but Lazy Perfectionist is perfect for me (and I guess the fact that I got the idea from someone else proves the point.)
You make such adorable children.

quiet and happy. 🙂 I love peace and quiet but with five kids, it often gets a little rowdy. But that's okay because I'm still happy. lol
Jamie Jo says
Loved, loved the video!! If that doesn't make every woman want another baby, nothing will.
Thankful Mother (because "mother" means I am all of the above comments, ADD brought on by giving birth)
Happy blessed Mother's day!
Susan Kolosionek says
Mine would be faith-filled, yet over-analytical.
Laura says
I would have to say "overwhelmed introvert." I love the silence, but I'm sure I will miss the noise when the kids are grown and gone!
Lauri Wilson says
Cheerful & crafty (not sneaky – I just like to cross stitch and scrapbook!)
Jodi Reel says

I cheated and asked my husband. He said family organizer. That is probably a good description. Happy Mother's Day!

Positive & Worrier. Thank you for the give-away & Happy Mother's Day!!

My first thought was "Catholic mom," but obviously that applies to pretty much everyone on here. My second thought was "loving organizer," which is almost the same thing, but in different words :).-Diane

What a very thoughtful give a way. Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms.
My two words… Happy/Tired. We are expecting our 4th in early Nov. and the extra progesterone I need to take is kicking my bottom:) Ann
Christine says
I'm going to go with "Creative, Critical"
I brought up the idea to my family. My daughter then said that my strength was chocolate and my weakness was children.
My husband then said that his would be "Smart, Too Smart"
Thanks for the laughter this morning!
Liz says
LAzy perfectionist is good for me too. I once told my husband (a perfectionist in every sense of the word) that I was a perfectionist and if I knew something wouldn't turn out perfect, I just wouldn't bother doing it. I guess he is a motivated perfectionist, because he didn't believe me. Oh well…if we were both like him we would drive each other crazy!
If I had to think of one on my own, it would be lovingly apathetic. :(. Sounds awful!
Happy mothers day!
Hélène says
There are probably better words than this, but kind and lazy. I told my husband this, and he said, "Maybe you should say 'kinda lazy'". 🙂
Cmerie says
Tired Idealist
With a one week old, I am very very tired. And I also look around my home thinking of all those lists I'd like to make to make our life just perfect. You know, for those days when I'm not so tired. 🙂
