Can it really be Epiphany?

January 3, 2010 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Hearth & Home, Living Liturgically, Minnesota Me 13 Comments

I haven’t even posted my Christmas pictures yet!

Xmas III

This one was my favorite.

Angela kept holding the tips of her wings to make them flutter. I told her she could flap her arms but she wanted none of that.

Xmas VII

See? Still holding those wings.

Xmas V

And then she got nervous and put her hands down.

(This picture, by the way, is probably my second favorite photo from the evening. I call it “Waiting.”)

(It’s an Advent theme.)

Can it really be Epiphany?

Mint Chocolate Chip Cookies

I still haven’t finished my Christmas baking!

Seriously. Go downstairs to my pantry and tell me what you see there.

Go on.

You see bags and bags of flour, don’t you? And chocolate chips and condensed milk and a bar (or two) of almond bark.

I did make a pecan pie, though—my first pecan pie ever!

~ After ~

Then I discovered that I’m the only one in my family who even likes pecan pie.

(Did she eat the whole thing or didn’t she?)

(She did not.)

(Are you disappointed?)

Can it really be Epiphany?

We still haven’t finished all our Advent books! There was so much good reading that I had on the shelf…so much that I never got to.

This book, though—this book we did finish.

Jotham's Journey

Can you tell what it is? Should I just tell you?

It was Jotham’s Journey and it was the first time that we’d read it.

Highly recommended.

Every night of Advent, we’d light the candles on the wreath. We’d read a chapter and close with a verse or two from “O Come O Come, Emmanuel.”

It is my favorite memory by far from this past Advent.

Christmas XV

Do those unread books really matter?

Can it really be Epiphany?

I still haven’t made my New Year’s resolutions!

Actually, I take that back. I did make a list of resolutions and they were quite good—lofty and full of ambition.

And then I set this list aside—or rather, I pared it down to three. Are you ready to hear them? Here they are:

Love more.

Smile often.

Close the kitchen cupboards.

That last one, especially, will take much practice.

Happy 3rd Day of Twenty-Ten, everyone! Happy Feast
of the Epiphany.

PS. This is my very first post of a brand new decade! That’s so cool.

Hilarious – I always get in trouble from the hubbie, when he bangs his head into the kitchen cabinets…

Love it Margaret! I am feeling exactly the same…Can it be Epiphany already? Much like you, feeling like so much was left undone. But really, looking back it was a pretty darn good Advent and Christmas after all.

We did Jotham's Journey the last two years and loved it and opted to try Destination: Bethlehem this year. Highly recommend both. A treasured Advent tradition it has become for our family.

Blessings to you in the new year and on those resolutions!

I feel the same way: how can it be epiphany. But I think that it doesn't matter what is undone. You're the only one who notices. The kids don't.
I've been fighting that battle, wondering if I should have done more. And then I think about how it took us three days to bake a batch of sugar cookies. (And half of it is still in plastic wrap in the fridge.) But you know Isabella didn't notice that all we did was bake a half batch of sugar cookies that never got frosted. She baked cookies and got to eat them and never knew there was supposed to be more. The books will be there next year.

    Margaret…..It's really Epiphany!
How can Anthony be that big already? How can that be?
Angela makes the most beautiful angel I have ever seen!
God bless you and your wonderful family!
    You make me smile!

We started reading "Jotham's Journey" and never finished it…I so wanted to finish it!! We can still read it not in Advent can't we?

Great post. Beautiful angel Angela! Beautiful mama!
