…a day makes!
The boys have been outside all afternoon, breathing in great big ginormous gulps of fresh air. They will not come in until called.
The girls are more selective, of course. They will play on the tire swing, break for apples and peanut butter, draw with sidewalk chalk on the driveway, break for drawing imaginary friends at the kitchen table…
…and so on.
The Very Best Part of the day happened early, around 9:00 a.m. We were in the backyard saying hello to the day—“Hello, day!” says I, “Thank you ever so much for being sunny and not snowy!”—when all of a sudden there was this…playground-type sound.
Chattering, laughing, calling back and forth—that sort of thing, you know, except it wasn’t my kids and the rest of the neighborhood was away at school.
“Kids!” I called. “What is that?”
The din grew louder and louder, and I was scanning all the yards when:
“Mom! Look up!”
A huge, white V of Canadian geese was passing overhead. First one V, and then another, and another. They were really loud, and really beautiful.
They were saying, “Can you believe it? It’s finally spring.”
