Flood Update/The Power of Prayer

March 25, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Minnesota Me, Prayer 9 Comments

I would very much like to thank you for praying for my family. The snowstorm that they got last night hasn’t helped matters much, but they are holding tight. My mom and dad, bless their 84-year-old little hearts, are not (presently) at risk, though my dad’s got his sump pump working overtime.

He’s always been a handy man, my dad.

I was thinking about intercessory prayer yesterday. I believe it in, certainly, but do I really understand its power? I think that if I did, I would be praying much more often than I do…a Memorare here, a Hail Mary there, and a Glory Be of thanksgiving at the chiming of every hour.

We’re praying that Glory Be of thanksgiving today, my family and I. We are praying many of them. Would you like to know why?

My niece was in a major car accident yesterday.

She was coming home from Fargo and lost control. The results of her hitting a semi at 75 miles an hour (which is the speed limit on that highway, but the semi was only doing 40) sent her spinning out into the water-filled ditch. The airbags inflated and the van was totaled, but my niece came out okay.

She broke a rib and is bruised all over, but she’s okay.

[The doctor, by the way, said she was lucky—more than lucky. It’s not often that he sees people going home after an accident like that.]

So, yes. Thank you, friends, and thank you, God.

To Him be all the glory.

So glad to hear that all is OK for your parents, Margaret. Thank goodness for your niece’s safety, too. That is an incredible story. The roads have been so unpredictable everywhere in the area; I’m so glad I haven’t needed to travel. I’ve only asked that my husband NOT drive through any water when he’s gone out… And I’m thankful we are not water-locked and can still get to town if needed (although, no travel to Fargo – those paths are blocked right now).

I just said a Hail Mary for your niece.
Happy to know your parents are safe.
    Mine are that age too.

That is so wonderful about your niece! I will pray that she does not have any “hidden” injuries like neck problems that creep up later!

I’m so happy your parents are doing well! And your niece…well I think her guardian angel was on the ball! Thank you, Lord!

I too have family in the Fargo/Moorhead area. We’ve been praying for them too as they live 12 blocks from the flooding river. I’m sure our prayers are overlapping and God’s hearing them all the louder.
