…who passed away unexpectedly yesterday.
Michael was a Catholic writer and blogger, and the husband of writer Amy Welborn.
Please pray for the repose of his soul and for his family. The comments are closed at Amy’s blog, but you may post your messages and prayers as a spiritual bouquet here.
Updated to Add: Faith & Family Live has taken up a collection to help cover the costs of Michael’s funeral and any other expenses. Here is the link to make a donation.
As Danielle so beautifully puts it, “This couple has given so much to the Church through their work. Please consider helping in whatever way you can.”
Updated Further to Add: I have just had an aha! moment. When I read that all of the proceeds from Michael’s book The How To Book of the Mass were being donated to his children’s college fund, I clicked over to Amy’s bookstore to see about purchasing it. I didn’t realize that it’s the same book I have upstairs in our classroom—“borrowed”, as it were, from my church’s adoration chapel because it was so good that I couldn’t stop reading it.
I see now that the best thing to do is to buy a copy of my own.
Note: Amy has asked that we not buy Michael’s books from her at this time, as she “is in no position to fill orders.”
Elizabeth Foss has a list of many of his books with links to Amazon: here is her link. Also, Love2Learn has started posting their reviews. (Here is that link.)

I ran across this via Suzanne’s blog this morning. I did not know Michael or Amy, or read their blogs, but my heart and prayers go out to them.

I have the link to the book on my blog, too. It will be Christmas presents/birthday presents for a lot of people, that’s for sure.
This is so, so sad.

DH and I met Amy a couple years ago when she gave a talk in Philadelphia. We actually had time to chat with her privately. It was a great evening from the casual conversation about family and kids to her thoughtful talk on Jesus. Since then I’ve followed her blog and we’ve read a number of Amy’s and Michael’s books. Amy’s “Prove It” and “Here, Now” books are WONDERFUL for young adults or teens to think about their faith. I love her Catholic Woman’s companion for meditations each day.
Just a reminder though that Amy asked that people buy Micheal’s How to Book of the Mass elsewhere, since she clearly will not be up to filling orders. My prayers are with Amy, all of the children, and their family and friends. God rest his soul.

My kids have all of the “Prove It” books and have benefitted from them tremendously.
What a shock. The man was only 50 years old. *sad sigh* I will pray for the repose of that dear man’s soul. I, too, am purchasing the book elsewhere, as requested by Amy.
