Everything is gray.
I watch, but nothing moves today.
Name that book!
And then, while you’re at it, swing by my house and give me a spa treatment. Could you? Because we’re going on what seems like Day 188 of No Sun Whatsoever and I’m looking like the walking dead. Truly. I could be an extra on the set of Twilight, it’s that bad.
So I’m just making conversation, is all.
How are you?
Any sun where you’re at?
Perhaps it’s that this is the week from h*ll. That’s right, I said “hill.” This week is turning into one great big upward climb and I can…nearly…see…the summit, but not quite. Boy Scouts on Monday. Cub Scouts on Tuesday. Piano and Choir on Wednesday. Orchestra Hall and a doctor’s appointment on Thursday. An interview and a class at the Science Museum on Friday. An admissions exam and Little Flowers on Saturday.
Oh, and back-to-back birthdays—one on Friday, and one on Saturday.
And did I mention my honey’s going hunting? That’s this weekend also, naturally.
When the piano teacher popped her head into the waiting room today and said, “Remember, there’s no class next week!” I just about kissed her. We have nothing nothing nothing scheduled next week, except bed rest and board games and KFC on Thanksgiving.
I’m serious.
I do plan on making pies, though.
With love & blessings & serious bags under my bloodshot eyes,

Believe it or not we’d like some of your weather. Not 188 days of it, but a day or two? Sure.
Today is my day to go nowhere and it is OH SO NICE!! No having to watch the clock, no running out the door with my hair on fire when I realize the clock I was watching is 15 minutes slow…..
‘Home…it’s a good thing’
Kathyb1960 says
Oooo, KFC for T’giving. What a good idea!
Hope you are feeling well. You are in my prayers.
Oh, and your daughter Felicity’s b-day is the same day as my niece. Except she will be 20. Man! Hard to believe I have a niece that old! I was there when she was born!
Jennifer says
Are you going to go for the KFC bowl? I highly recommend it. I’m sorry your gray Margaret. Hugs-
Jamie says
You could do “Jamie’s house” for Thanksgiving!
Really, we are only having one of my hubby’s brothers and his wife and their new little baby, that’s it.
Then the next day the kids are going with daddy to Wisconsin Dells for the weekend! SO, I don’t want all these leftovers here with just me. (and my Angela)
It’s grey up here too though, can’t help that…my 4 year old just can’t understand why it is “night-night” time so early in the day. (the darkness) That good old sun is sure wanted and missed this time of year!
We just had our last dance class today..until after Christmas!!! Yippee!!! Cub scouts, Little Crowns, piano still happening though, social co-op, book club, how do we slow down for Advent?
Ellen says
I’m glad to hear that you have your priorities straight – not cooking turkey, but making sure that pies get made.
We had some sun here in southern NJ, but lots of wind and cold temps (it was in the mid 70’s Satuday and only mid 30’s today). But the lack of sun makes me want to curl up with a good book or good movie and a cup of tea and veg out.
Marylisa says
I put a cardigan on OVER my sweater last night. I’m cold. I’m cold and I fear I will not warm up until spring. Send that spa treatment sister up here when you’re through with her.
Emily says
I’m always pale. I’m used to it. 🙂 And I am very much looking forward to Twilight, LOL.
stephanie says
I had to look it up, but the book is “My Many Colored Days” by Dr. Seuss. It’s been a while since we’ve read that. 🙂 We actually enjoyed a corner of sunshine and warmth outside this afternoon (literally, there is an ‘inside’ corner on the south side of the house that is protected from the wind and the sun just shone down and warmed us). I needed it. My dh left on his yearly hunting trip today…he’ll be gone 4 days. I hope you find a corner of sunshine soon!
minnesotamom says
Yay! Someone took the bait and guessed what book those lines were from! You win, Stephanie! You get to come give me my spa treatment. 🙂
(It’s one of my favorite children’s books. I can recite the whole thing by heart.)
amy says
Ah, fiddle… I knew the book right away, but was beat to the punch. 😉
Let me make you feel a little better about your holiday Miss Margaret…(in the spirit of ‘misery loves company’, ‘it’s all relative’ or ‘there’s always someone out there that’s worse off than me’, or something like that.)
The week of Thanksgiving (to include the very day) we will be moving. After a measly 5 mos in our house, the military needs us to move out of our quarters so they can bull doze it. Not fit to live in so they say (and really, I agree..). Bad part– we’re moving most of it ourselves (twitch, jerk, twitch). Good part is we’ll be moving into a new house (practically unheard of in the military these days).
Anyoldhoo, KFC sounds like a great idea.
You’ve been in my thoughts and prayers often these days and now I plan to raise a KFC leg up to you on Turkey Day!
Diane says
Never underestimate the power of gray.
Think of the person who makes you laugh the most and then call them. You will warm to the sunshine of their voice. It’s the best therapy ever. Trust me on this.
Have an extra-crispy thigh for me, would ya? Smart man, that husband of yours. (Of course he is…he married you!)
Praying for you, Lovey. And wishing I could come right over with my spa treatment bag…
Marjorie says
Oh, a day off from outside activities! Isn’t it heavenly! Our ‘hill’ looks a lot like yours except we have Cub scouts on Monday, two science field trips, piano, choir, and the Opera. We had one whole day free on Tuesday and we felt so happy just to be home. Peace.
scmom (Barbara) says
In between all those scout meetings and music lessons you need to be sitting, with your toes up, and a cup of herbal tea in hand. I command you.
And if you can make it just a wee bit south, I’ll set a place at the table for the whole family for some turkey and stuffing. And I’ll do a deluxe pedicure afterward.
Heather says
Hey, quit complaining- I live in Seattle!! The sun comes out like the groundhog around here! 🙂 And for the record, I’d get a swedish and a pedicure. Extra pressure and focus on the shoulders…
Lisa says
Blessings, Margaret! Sending you some Colorado sunshine (It’s not out right now, but it’s always only a matter of time here ~ Thank you, God!)Hope next week is a restful and grace-filled one for you after this week’s busy-ness.
