Saints in the Making

November 1, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Minnesota Me, Special Events, Spiritual Growth 8 Comments

Highlights from last evening include:

  • 3-year-old Angela getting frustrated that we made her leave the house with an empty pumpkin. She thought that the big bowl of candy sitting by the door was for filling it before she left.
  • Angela’s incredible surprise at the consequent play of events. As we moved from one neighbor to the next she kept asking, “Are they going to give us candy, too?!!”
  • Felicity’s remark, “Every single part of me is fweezin’!” Cate responded that the only part of her that was cold was her nose. Which just goes to show that a nun burns with more holy charity than a princess. Or not.
  • The long hard look that some of the parents gave Cate in her Blessed Mother Teresa costume. I wondered—hoped, really—that perhaps they were being confronted with the Truth of the Gospel in some small way. One never knows. Perhaps they were just thinking that Cate’s nose looked really cold.

The one big bummer took place this morning. When I took the puppy out to go potty I saw that someone had smashed my daughters’ jack-o’-lanterns on the driveway. My heart broke a little at the thought of telling Cate and Felicity about the sad, sad fate of their beloved pumpkins. Then I thought of our Blessed Mother at the foot of the cross—and of the many, many, many saints who suffered persecution—and I felt brave.

Happy All Saints’ Day, everyone! I truly love this feast day, and I hope that you do, too.

Ad Jesum per Mariam,

Adorable! Thank heaven’s it was only a little fweezin’ here! The Knights of the Crusade had a blast last night! Happy All Saint’s Day!

Happy All Sain’t Day to you too!

Love your little ones and their costumes. We had a lovely mild night … upper 60’s I bet.

They are beautiful! I love that Mother Teresa costume – I tried to get one for our homeschoolers celebration today, but I was too late. 🙁

Happy Feast to you and those beautiful little ones!

Someone smashed our pumpkins one year too. 🙁 Shame, shame.

We made Mother Teresa costume some 9 years ago in advance of her beatification (was there any doubt) and have passed it down from girl to girl, as our favorite costume.
It gets a big reaction from adults here as well.No one has to ‘guess’ she is!

Perhaps the long looks were for Blessed Teresa’s bag saying “Eat Well.” Maybe the irony was too much for them. 😉

(Unless there’s more of her quote on the rest of her bag?)
