Sometimes, for the sake of being “artsy”, I end up being clear as mud.
Case in point: I received a couple of sweet e-mails after my Unsubscribed post just below, the gist being that I’d made my friends say “huh?”
If you knew what I meant by that post, you can stop reading now.
For the rest of you, here’s my explanation.
Having given Pioneer Woman a hearty endorsement about a month ago, I now feel compelled to revoke it. I had been taking her with a grain of salt as it was, but her allusion today to a horrible play was it for me.
As in: that’s it. I’ve had enough.
Call me a prude and I’d agree. Heck, I walked out of the movie The Graduate before their affair even began.
But that’s just me.
I guess I’d rather get my laughs without the crassness. Your sense of humor is probably different from mine in some ways—for example, can you watch Seinfeld without feeling guilty?—and that’s okay.
But personally? I really dislike reading profanity on the Internet…
…especially among women bloggers.
Anyway. I know there’s a great big blogging world out there. I also know that I have been very content in my small circle. After all the talk about the recent BlogHer conference in Chicago, though, (at Pioneer Woman’s blog and elsewhere), I’ll admit that I got curious. Who are these blogging women, I wondered? Are they funny? Are they fun?
I read a few blogs.
I looked at some photos from the conference (and saw that Kim Gandy was one of the featured speakers).
I felt yucky.
I moved on.
Enough said? I certainly hope so.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a solemnity and a little boy’s birthday to prepare for. : )

How brave of you to come forward and post this! Thank you Margaret. I’m naive, I did not get it, but you have clarified it and I agree totally with you.
Diane says
I couldn’t agree more. Why sink down in the muck (and risk the purity of my soul) just for a laugh? There is too much good stuff that brings true joy to waste my time on the edge. Why, I’ve got 6 little comedians offering me belly-laugh material all day long.
Not to mention this blog.
Philippians 4:8. We’ve got to live it if we want our kids to follow. Keep speaking the truth, girl.
Laura The Crazy Mama says
Do you have someone with a birthday on August 15th too?! My Matthew is TEN today!

On the same page here with you. Personally, I never did get it (not you–the crassness).
Mom of boys says
Kim Gandy? At a blogging conference? If I am not mistaken, she is a Planned Barrenhood person! OR is it NOW – all the same!
Boy, I am not sure what to say! They sure are trying to get their hands into everything, aren’t they!
Barb, sfo says
Thanks for standing up for what you believe in.
I’ve bailed on reading some blogs before, as well. I am in this for the encouragement. Once they start dragging me down, it’s time to go.
Jennifer says
I didn’t understand your post, nor did I understand the post you linked to. Should I be relieved that I can’t figure out what they are talking about?
Michelle says
Ugh. I hadn’t seen that one yet. Yuck.
I guess I’m too grown up to enjoy potty humor (or whatever you might call that).
Alicia Nin García says
Your circle is not as small as you may think. It goes all the way down to Montevideo, Uruguay. Thanks!
Stacey says
Ahem, yes. Amen. I agree. Good for you. Cheers!
Stacey says
Oh and I didn’t understand her post – but I did get yours. I just didn’t see why hers became a pillar all in that one little post. But I will say that I agree about when things are a “pillar” it’s time to move on!
Sarah says
So the advantage of catching up all at once is that I could see your “pillar” post and click through and have the same “awwww, man, now why’d she go and do THAT?!” that I had when I read it for myself the first time, and then I could read your commentary.
Kudos to you for standing up for what you believe in. That is what we are here to do, online and in our other lives too.
While I didn’t find myself bogged down by that particular post, there is a strain in some of the posts over there that has had me asking myself for a while if I’m laughing because it’s the kind of humor I would share with my Blessed Mother and Holy Role Model or if I’m laughing because I know I shouldn’t be thinking like that. This is my first experience like this in the blogosphere, and I’m not liking it. But I suppose that is part of life, huh?
Anyway, thanks as ever for the thoughts. 🙂
