Karen has asked me to do something that is very hard for most of us, and that is to talk about myself. ; )
“For this meme, each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.”
So here we go. Let’s see how surprised you are by any of this.
- I am a hopeless extrovert. My husband—bless his dear, introverted soul—is very patient and puts up with my chatty, social nature. His is the quiet yin to my ever-boisterous yang: a much-needed look-before-you-leap complement to my rash character.
- I love coffee but would give it up in a heartbeat if it meant becoming a better singer. When I took voice lessons in college (the only time I’ve taken voice lessons), my teacher asked me to give up caffeine. And for more than a month, I did! (The only time in the past two decades that I have done so.) I love to sing and can do so with happy abandon around my children, but those beautiful hymns at church are hard for me. It’s like my vocal chords close up with nervousness.
- I have a lazy eye that tends to droop when I get tired, a result of my having had Bells Palsy when I was pregnant with Stephen. Have you ever had Bells Palsy? Talk about weird! The right side of my face went completely numb for weeks. It just stopped working. If you’re good, I’ll post a picture sometime…because it’s really quite something to see the asymmetrical smile that I had going.
- I am different things to different people. I am Margaret and Maggie & (don’t tell anyone) Pookie to my husband; Maggie to my husband’s side of the family; Margie (hard ‘g’) to my own; Mags to a friend from college; and Margaret to everyone else. This inconsistency tends to make me feel a little schizophrenic at times. I have to remember “who” I am and “when.” I first went by Maggie when I worked as a server at TGIFridays ‘cause I thought it was a cute derivative and would seem friendly. One day my sister came by to see me and asked for Margaret.
My boss said, “You mean Maggie?
And my sister said, “You mean Margie?”
And my boss said, “Huh?”
And my sister replied, “Huh?”
You get the picture.
- I have six godchildren and pray for them daily. My goal is to have masses said for them on every birthday and to honor them (well, religiously) with a card or a phone call on all their name days and sacramental anniversaries.
- I want to be a saint. I really and truly do. The Holy Spirit knows this (and He knows the work He’s got cut out for Him) and yet, He seems to be taking His own sweet, spiritual time in this matter.
- Which brings me to my 8th fact/habit tidbit: I am incredibly impatient. Do you want to see my knuckles turn white? Stick me behind a slow driver and you will.
I tag:
Nutmeg, Sarah, Jennie, Jen, Laura, Lorrie, Michelle, and Marjorie

It’s me again.
I forgot to include my 8th habit, and that is “I can’t count!”
Having used up all my computer time, however, this is the best you get for number 8. 😉

Ah, good! Something for me to do this afternoon! I love you, Margaret. I’ve been wanting to call you, but I am NOT an extrovert. Takes me a while to get up my nerve. 🙂
Margaret Mary Myers says
I had to laugh – and can relate – with the names and the feelings of schizophrenia. If you’re interested (and have the computer time for it), you can read about my name at my blog post: http://margmary.blogspot.com/2007/02/name-change.html
And just the other day I picked up a prescription and found out that either the doctor’s office or the pharmacist re-named me Margie. Oh for heaven’s sake. LOL.
nutmeg says
Charming, as usual.
And boy, am I tired!
😉

Oh, you are so cute! So, you have to tell us what you want us in the cyberspace to call you! “Minnesota Mom” just doesn’t seem perfect enough.
I understan the many names. I get funny looks from people who hear someone call me “Frances” or any of the names I had in high-school. (can we say Pocket-lint?)
Michelle says
When I started dating my husband, his little sister, Margaret, was a teen. She was going through a phase where every few weeks she would “try on” a different nickname. I couldn’t keep up, so I opted to just call her by her given name. She finally settled on Maddie, but Margaret stuck for me. Whenever I would call her dorm room or her apartment (later in life) and ask for Margaret, her roommates would always go, “Huh? Who?”
Sarah Jane says
That sounds like a challenge. I’ll have to think hard to come up with something you don’t know, yet.

Loved learning more about you, Margaret/Minnesota Mom/Maggie/Margie(with a hard g)/Mags! You are a beautiful, wonderful, delightful, talented saint-in-the-making!!!
However we MUST work on the patience part!
James says
I found your blog through a link from another one, and have been reading it with much enjoyment and many smiles, but I’m shy about commenting. Thanks for all you’ve shared.
Item #6 – This is the same goal I have – to become a saint. My dear wife believes in miracles, and tells me that our Lord certainly has His work cut out with me on this one!
God bless!
minnesotamom says
James, if I’m not mistaken you are the first person of your gender to comment on my blog! (My husband’s one anonymous quip does not count.)
This makes you special! Kind of like the 1 millionth commenter or something like that, only without the cool prizes.
Thank you for overcoming your shyness to let me know you’re out there. I truly do appreciate it.

“Margaret” is such a pretty name. I’ve always loved it. I couldn’t bear to call you anything else. 🙂
Laura H. says
Oh the name thing had my stomach in knots… that was the best laugh I had all day… and I laugh a lot!
I’ll do this one today.. hopefully. 🙂
Suzanne Temple says
I know that name game: I should have a name tag that reads:
Hi I’m Suzanne, Susie, Sue, Susie-Poolie, and most recently acquired from my dear brother, Sooz.
I so dislike having “Susie” callers in the room with “Suzanne” callers. Makes me uncomfortable. I wonder if the “Susie” callers think I’m pretentious for having the others call me “Suzanne” and if the “Suzanne” callers wonder why I have excluded them from the warmth and intimacy of calling me a name I despise! HA!
Jen says
One of these days, we are meeting for coffee. I bet meeting you in real life, along with being hopped up on caffine, would be a blast. 🙂
scmom says
There must be a syndrome for that name thing…I am Barbara, Barb, Babs, Annie to my mother, and (ugh!) even Barbie to most of my family. I wish everyone would just call me “mom.”
Karen E. says
I’m just going to call you Peggy.
Kimberly Wasson says
Hi Margaret,Margie, Maggie, Mags, etc…linked to your site from Stony Creek Digest. You are hysterical (meaning funny, not in need of medication ;-P)
I’m a Kim (to everyone who sees my name in print, they all want to shorten it!), Kimber (to my dearly departed FIL), Kimmie (to my sweet hubbie and my family), and Kimberly(how I introduce myself)…I prefer Kimberly. When I found out I was named for a rather fat, platinum blond, B-movie star (Kim Novak), I insisted on being called “Kimberly”…it just doesn’t seem to stick…sigh
