On Being Charged by an Arachnid

May 9, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Health & Wellness, Hearth & Home, Minnesota Me 18 Comments

Yesterday I dusted down months and months’ worth of cobwebs in my basement. They were distracting me from my primary vocation of pretending to run on the treadmill. (Can one really, truly run at a pace of 2 miles an hour? I didn’t think so.)

Anyway, the months and months’ worth of cobwebs took me maybe 5 minutes to remove.

Which was surprising, but also very satisfying.

The running on the treadmill, though? Well, that’s another story.

*PS. While we’re (loosely) on the subject of fitness, I’m going to tell you one of my weirdest so-starving-that-I-gotta-eat-right-now snack: whole kernel corn straight out of the can. Mmm…delicious! Instant sugar to the brain and fiber to the belly (on down)! I can polish off half a can in no time flat. At which time I say, “Okay, this is rude and I should stop now.”

So. Having told you my deep dark snacking secret, I’d love it if you’d share your favorite fast snack, as well!

I like Pop-Tarts. My favorites are Hot Fudge Sundae and Brown Sugar & Cinnamon. Were you thinking healthy snack? How about peanuts?

Healthy snacks: Almonds or (please don’t think I am weird) oat bran. It is fast (only 3 minutes in the microwave) and best when served with a little butter, salt and pepper.

    No-so-healthy: Doritos

Cheryl asks: Were you thinking healthy snacks?

Matilda aptly offers: a couple healthy and one, not so much.

Margaret chimes in: I was thinking healthy but sometimes healthy just doesn’t cut it. How about it, ladies? Let’s do one of each!

But there are so many to choose from! Healthy — a handful of grapes. Yummy! Not-so-healthy? I buy the HUGE bags of chocolate chips for baking at Sam’s and keep them in the freezer. When I need the instant sugar rush I just grab a handful and I’m good to go!

You ladies are up too early!! Let’s see my favorite snack? Dried squid. Really. It’s very tasty although a bit stinky. My children love it as well. My dh wants us on the other side of the world when we eat it.

Unhealthy: Chocolate. When I’m desperate, I go for my baking chips.

I have found the 100 calorie packs wonderful, they are pre measured so I don’t over eat and my favorite are the grasshopper cookie ones!

    Anything chocolate!!!

As my kids would say (from some TV show or other): “Real corn makes it special.”

I like Chocolate & Caramel pop-tarts. For that matter, I like chocolate & caramel ANYTHING. Pass the milky ways.

I try not to buy Doritos or (worse) “Hint of Lime” tortilla chips. I am powerless over them.

Canned corn … that is an unusual snack.

I am notorious for grabbing a piece of cheese from the fridge. When I am hungry I often look for a protein fix.

I have recently rid my house of chocolate (crying). I am not sure that was entirely intentional, but I usually have a stash of dark chocolate. In recent months, my waistline has expanded a little(maybe it is from sitting at my computer too much), and I need to look good in my bathing suit (We live at the pool in the summer time). Time to really get on the ball (Core Secrets).

healthy – Craisins (dried cranberries) – I love them and so do my children!

not-so-healthy – chips (if I have some in the house), chocolate chips from the freezer (same as Paula in MN), and anything else I can get my hands on when I’m having a moment of weekness and NEED something to “pick me up”!

I just read over this comment and it struck me that I have only one healthy snack listed and multiple “un-healthy” ones – Ahh! That must be my problem with these extra pounds that I can’t seem to shed.

I could eat cold pickled beets out of the jar just like that! Or cottage cheese with pepper.

I prefer the corn frozen, myself. There’s an open bag on the freezer door, right next to the chocolate chips.

Today I’m snacking on banana bread with chocolate chips. I love yogurt covered raisins and cranberries.

    Healthy? Grapes or carrot sticks.

Oooh, I’m with you on the tinned sweetcorn. I gobbled half a tin myself last night — but the kids were having it. I don’t think I’d go so far as to open one solely for the purposes of snacking…

I have a dd who will eat cold tinned corn by the plateful. Favourite fast snack? Chocolate! A healthy one? Bananas.

    Healthy snacks: Grapes and strawberries.
Not so healthy snacks: Easter chocolate. After all, it is still the Easter Season, right?
