My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation: the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

February 2, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Living Liturgically, Minnesota Me, Prayer, Spiritual Growth 3 Comments

“Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared inthe sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.”

Today on this great and beautiful feast, my thoughts are on the following:

  • am I a light to others?
  • am I open to the Spirit, like Simeon?
  • am I living each moment in a spirit of prayer, like Anna?
  • am I humble, like Our Lady?
  • and finally, who are the Gentiles in my life and am I kind to them?

So many times, it seems to me, the answer to these questions is “No.”

And I sigh and I cry and I smile at the sight of my littleness. I am a toddler whose speed gets the best of her. When I fall, and that is often, I look to the Father and lift my arms.

God is good and so glorious! May we trust in His mercy, bask in His love, and thank Him for all His blessings.

The above painting is by Rembrandt (1606-1669) and is entitled The Presentation of Jesus in the Temple (1627/28).

Beutiful! Thank you for sharing these thoughts. I need to think about that more often. I will print out these questions and look at them often.
