Scenes from the Feast

October 4, 2013 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Gratitude, Growing Up, Minnesota Me, Special Events 8 Comments

Okay, first of all?
Glinda and Elphaminneba
Going to see Wicked with my daughter Cate was not–I repeat, not–in the birthday budget.

This is why I married the man that I did. If I had married a man like me, this blog would have a very different name.

Hooverville Mom. That has a really nice ring, don’t you think?

Also, Cate assured me that I would be extremely popular if I wore green face paint to the production.* Certainly I could have bought a new dress, because I am growing weary–WEARY!–of seeing pictures of me in this red one.

(You too? I thought so.)

Second of all, to answer my friend Cathie’s question…

Mommy's Birthday 2013

The cake that Cate made me was Duncan Hines Red Velvet, frosted by me with cream cheese frosting and candle-fied by George and Angela. “That looks a kid’s cake,” Felicity remarked, “Except it’s got millions of candles.”

It was recommended that I, being a somewhat busy mom, celebrate a birthday octave and not just one day. What a good idea! And so we had the candle-fied cake last night, and my husband (despite my Wicked infraction) gave me one more present: a box of Godiva truffles.

You know what? I think I’ll keep him.

* In truth, I did not really wear green face paint. (The above edits were done on PicMonkey.) Still, wouldn’t it have been fun if I had?

    Hi Margaret,
Because you're celebrating a birthday octave, I'm still in time to wish you a wonderful, special day. Hope it is and was a great, blessed one.
    Love,
    Gail

    Margaret,
My birthday is October 10, and I know from way back that we are both the same age (!) so I hope that you will be still celebrating this Thursday when I turn 4@#$!

What a fun birthday evening! I haven't seen "Wicked", but would love to.
Sometime I'll have to tell you about the "Wild Rice cookbook" that my husband bought me one year. I'm pretty sure he stuck with chocolate after that…chocolate is always safe.

I've been busy the last couple days…but have to quick say, That can NOT be your Kate. When did she grow up and look so old like that?

    Overnight, I tell you, overnight!!

I got to go see Wicked for my birthday as well, but in May in Dallas – it was so fun! I like the idea of a birthday Octave!!
