Pure Conjecture

August 30, 2012 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Anecdotal, Just Me, Minnesota Me, Motherhood, Pregnancy 4 Comments

If you tell your four children that the reason Mom started weeping at lunch is that she’s way overtired and needs a nap and that they MUST stay quiet and keep the 3-year-old happy…

If you say this to them and your sweet 9-year-old daughter still comes up…and proceeds to stand at your bedside silently and stare at you with one of her hands on your pregnant belly….

It STILL constitutes waking your mother up.

As would be indicated by your mother’s gasp.

    Was she worried?

I'll tell you, if the day goes downhill and a certain child pushed me to my limits, I put my face in my hands and say a loud Hail Mary. For the rest of the day my children watch me very closely like I might just lose my mind!

I hope you are rested today. Take care of yourself.

Oh Margaret lol I do sympathize. Night before last I was woken out of a deep sleep to find my 10yo standing and staring at me, perfectly silent. He told me "I was watching to see if you were asleep."

Not any more, baby, not any more …

Your kids do that too?!? I had such a rough time catching up on sleep after my 6th last month due to steroids required for a safe delivery. I just wanted a nap and all I got was "Mommy!" yelled in a whisper at my bedside. Can you kids yell in a whisper, too? I'd like to say I didn't cry in my exhaustion…but I can't.

But in 20 years, we will wish for these days back… maybe without the tears 🙂

Funny, and nice to know that it is not only my kids who do that. I remember worrying about my Mom and the baby when my Mom was pregnant with my little sister (I was #7). I still remember studying Mom's face to see if she was sad or tired and trying to make her happy. Kid's mean so well don't they – if only they would let a Mom sleep. I hope you got that nap.
