They should make library cards like middle school hall passes. You know, those great big chunky blocks of wood that are IMPOSSIBLE to misplace.
Note to Self: Please please please put that card away when you are done with it. By “away” I mean in your wallet, where it goes.
Not in your pants pocket.
Not in your jacket pocket.
Not in the book bag with the library books.
Not in the coffee cup holder in the van.
And not laying on the seat by your daughter’s booster!
(Which is where I just found it.)
Random Memory: One of my former colleagues—this was back when I was teaching high school—used to have his students use a globe as a hall pass. Hilarious! Gosh, I miss him. He was the principal at this school. May he, and that school, rest in peace. : (
*Sorry to end on a sad face note! Well, death & dying & the closing of schools & the occasional misplaced library card are all a part of life. May we be ready today for God’s will for us.
Happy Monday!☺

And thank goodness for St. Anthony the patron of lost things, whom we are petitioning to find a brand, spankin', new St. Therese medal. Now that you found your card, you can help me!

My library has a cool keychain thing, so you get the keychain card and the big card. I think it's a lot harder to misplace the card when it's attached to the keys!

I have often thought about putting a luggage tag – for the library card – on each child's book bag. We haven't lost anything yet, but at least then I wouldn't have to carry everyone's card in my wallet.

Excellent ideas, Emily & Suzie! I think I'll get one of those stretchy cords and put the card on my key chain.
And Barbara, that's why we named our baby Anthony. It doesn't hurt to get in good with the big guy.

My dad's Alma Mater. Very, very sad that such a wonderful school is closing.

I love the luggage tag idea!
The globe hall pass makes me think of my freshman English teacher. She got so fed up with people taking extended breaks from her class to wander the halls that she started using a brightly-painted toilet seat as her hall pass. It cut down drastically on the number and duration of bathroom breaks.

Out of the wallet…then right back in. The only way to keep my head on straight. most of the time;)

Happily, our library issues key tags with their cards. I never lose my keys!

Paula, I agree with you. I have many good memories from my year with that school.

My high school biology teacher used gigantic antlers as his hall passes. That way students couldn't pocket them or lose them. But what were you supposed to do with them in the stall?
Our library has those neat little key ring cards too. I love it.

Oh, if only I had a tiny clue about where might Library card might be. I last saw it in um, well, the Fall. I haven't brought myself to admitting I've lost it for good. I'm guessing coat pocket, junk drawer, trunk…. or even hidden with help from the 2yo. So instead of simply paying the $5 and replacing it for the umpteenth time I just show my driver license to check out. I've memorized the missing card's number so I don't have to think to login online. I'm getting motivated to switch if it doesn't pop up while I'm doing spring cleaning b/c they just came out with the keychain ones and self-checkout kiosks that require the card instead of the ID. I think I'll go work on that junk drawer right now 🙂

I have holepunched the kids cards, and tied a string from that to a zip on a pocket on their library bags. So far, it's working really well:-)
