Consumer Confusion

July 29, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Health & Wellness, Minnesota Me 14 Comments

I had to laugh, and then cringe, and then laugh.

My cart at the Sam’s Club check-out contained both a copy of this book and a container of…

these.

I call it the gluttonous tub.

And am wondering…what was I thinking?

To my credit, I had also purchased a box of “Soda Pops™ Freezer Pops”—Those look so good, Momma! Buy them, please?—and then threw them away once I got home and read the label. I told the kids what I had done, too—the first step in my necessary reformation.

We’re trying to eat healthier. We really are.

And it’s…

All for the greater glory of God,

PS. The book is great! I’m loving it. My kids? They’re not so sure. ; )

That barrel of cheese balls would be eaten in one sitting at my house….by me! I tend to hoover them up and before you know it, they're gone.

My kids love the Eat This Not That books and, well, they definitely love those sorts of cheesy things too. 🙂

I was just at Sams on Monday. I am not attracted to the orange snacks, though. But, it's a good thing my husband doesn't go to Sam's often! My kids would probably eat them, but I'm too fussy about the messy hands, face, and clothes to buy them. I have one ds who uses his shirts for napkins … I do believe he'd have a ring of orange around his collar.

My silly extras – not on my list – were a swimsuit for dd (it fit perfectly to my and her delight) and a seedless watermelon. I was in a hurry or I'd have browsed the books/mags a little more thoroughly.

Hm. Haven't read that book, but anybody who points you toward Spaghetti-O's is a little suspect.

I think the point, Jennie, is that Spaghettios are lower in fat and sugar than the Kraft macaroni & cheese and are therefore a better choice.

If you're going to buy that kind of stuff anyway.

I happen to enjoy a nice bowl of Spaghettios, incidentally.

    Don't tell anyone.

My cart fairly regularly contains tons of organic food produce and a fair bit of chocolate candy. I always wonder what the checkout person thinks of me. The fruit and veggies are for the children. The chocolate is for me. 🙂

Mags, that is too funny. Those cheese balls look, well, are you sure they were in the food section of Sam's? They might be recyclable.

MY daughters discovered that those cheese balls "crush & pop" wonderfully underfoot…they did this while we were living with a friend…in his TV room…while I was napping with the baby…4 years ago, or so…we still laugh about it…although I didn't find it very funny at the time.
Blessedly they vacuumed up quickly and left no orange residue on the white Berber carpeting 🙂
I haven't bought the round ones since.

Wow..I bought those same soda pops and if I remember they were 7 dollars a box. Could not believe it. Have to eat'em when they cost that much.

This is, quite seriously, one of the reasons I don't have a membership to Sam's Club, Costco, or any such place anymore.

I totally get how it could help the careful shopper's budget, especially with a big family. But I must not be careful enough, because I don't think we were able to use it to help our budget. I think it just made us eat more.

I usually get their produce and, of course wipes and diapers. I the 5 pack of Romaine Lettuce. The kids always want the junk stuff, but I try to stick to the essentials shredded cheddar, tortillas, some crackers, non hormone milk etc. I actually have one that loves the fact that we are getting lettuce(celery too!!)–Rabbit let's call her. Not so with the others. Yes, I do get the junk at times, but not too frequently otherwise I'd be headed down a road I don't want to travel. Like the book title, maybe I'll get it at the library. Glad to know Spag—os are a better bet than the Kraft Mac and Cheese. Cheri
PS By the way, Margaret, where do they sell the milk in a bag? Just brings back memories.

By the way, I, too, got a swimsuit at Sam's for one of my daughters. Nice and covered, in case anyone is looking for a girl's swimsuit. I had a hard time finding something decent at other stores.Cheri

I love those cheese balls, however….. they do not love me. I have learned to do without them. My tummy suffers terribly if I eat them, or anything with dairy for that matter. Except for GOAT milk, cheese and yogurt! : ) I even found goat milk butter last week!!

I love that book and the original. We have both and I sometimes remember what I've learned from them. But I could never give up those cheese balls either.
