The boys are going to walk the dog (not the dog pictured below, mind you) and as always, they are arguing over who gets to carry the poop on the way home.
“Look,” I said, trying to cloak my annoyance. “You boys are Scouts. Can you just work it out between you?”
Feeling clever, I went upstairs to track down a pair of socks for Angela so that she could accompany them on their journey.
“Hey, Mom!” Joe was shouting up the stairs because they always shout up the stairs.
“Can I pull rank on Jem?”
“Pull rank? What are you talking about?” I knew the answer already, but I was looking forward to his response.
“Well, he’s still a Webelo…
Jem scowled.
…and I’m First Class.”
I like this idea of pulling rank. I think I’ll use it on my 4-year-old.
PS. My answer to Joe was no.

My son is a Scout too, and I had to remind him too not to “pull rank” when he helped me at a Cub campout last weekend! So I can understand this exactly.

I am married to a Sr. Chief in the USN – no one pulls rank, not even he does. It is considered bad form. But, this is how they learn that. Just tell your first class to tell you “the twelve” (a scout is . . . ).
From one scout mum to another,

Why do they ALWAYS yell up (or down) the stairs???
