When the Television Breaks

February 1, 2009 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Family Fun, Hearth & Home, Minnesota Me 8 Comments

What do you do when you’ve got a fun new DVD for family movie night and the TV won’t cooperate?

Movie Night

You watch it on Daddy’s laptop, of course!

It seems as though almost every last electronic device in this house is conspiring to break on us. First the CD player in the van went. It seems—ahem—that someone decided to put a nickel in it. (Curiosity killed the cat and the stereo in this case.)

No CD player in the van means no music no stories no nothin’ on those long excursions across town. Can you say BO-RING?!!

Now the television/DVD player is giving us fits with its picky temperament. Granted, this TV has been around since my husband’s college days and probably could stand to be replaced.

Probably.

Who’s got the extra money for that, though? Not us, I tell you! These are lean years we’re heading into, my friends, lean lean years!

Yet, looking at the photo above of Joe holding his little sister, I’d say that maybe…just maybe…“lean” equates to “loving”.

I’ll take it.

Happy first day of February, everyone! Enjoy the game.

I think that is a lovely picture and I wouldn’t trade that moment for the world.

It’s that little coin holder below the CD player in the van that’s at fault. Mine has the same problem. We should sue for ‘exciting a 3 year old’s natural urge to pop pennies into little slots’:)

When we moved, we didn't have our TV & all the 'stuff' hooked up for about a month. We watched many a movie on the computer screen, too. It works & it's obvious your kids cared about 'a bigger screen' as much as mine!!

So funny! That’s us when we watch all movies, cause we have no tv. I’m thinking we should get one eventually so we can look like a civilized people. 🙂

When we bought our new (to us) van, the cassette player didn’t work. My husband figured out there was change inside — probably a dollar’s worth of change in nickels, dimes and pennies! He managed to eventually get it all out with tweezers — don’t know if that would work with a cd player, though. Thanks for a great blog!

My 3,5, and 7 year olds watched a movie on an IPOD, no joke! We were visiting some friends at a cabin and they were so worn out from all the playing – but the older kids weren’t ready to leave. It was weird!

We paid over $100 to get the change out of the CD player in the van. The second time it happened we sold the van. Actually, we sold it to buy a big 12 passenger van, but the lack of CD capability gave us a nudge in that direction.
