Ask a Silly Question…

September 27, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, My Boys 7 Comments

I searched the house for my 11-year-old only to find him up a tree.

[Reading a Cabela’s catalogue, of course.]

“Is supper ready?” he wanted to know.

“It’s in the crockpot, waiting on you,” I responded.

“Great! Could you bring it out to me?”

Accompanied by a bowl of peeled grapes? I’m wondering. And maybe a palm frond for fanning?

“That’s fine,” I called over my shoulder, “But how will I get it up to you?”

“In a bowl!” he answered.

    Margaret:

Only another mother with four boys and that very same catalog can truly appreciate the irony of that question!! Civil war is what we have here…the day the giant Cabelas catalog arrived, there were young men in a variety of hiding places, taking their turn (and usually most of the younger brother’s.)

And yesterday? They all discovered that Gander Mountain has once again begun printing their catalog…

    Here we go again!

Can I ask a silly question? What did you make?

As a matter of fact, Jenn, it was Texas Two-Step Stew! (Chorizo Sausage, 1 can Mexican-style chili beans, 1 can corn with peppers, and 1 box Spanish-style rice. Dump it all into the crockpot, add 6 cups water, and five hours later you’ve got your meal.)

I’ve been using my crockpot a lot lately, and really like this cookbook.

Smacks of my 11 year old… always in a tree, pretending he is in Wisconsin, looking at various hunting catalogs…..

    (sigh)

We’ll be heading up that way come spring, God willing!

Margaret, that sounds so good. Thanks for the recipe. It’s getting to be crock pot weather here!

HA! There was nothing like a tree for reading in when I was young… šŸ™‚ Only now, I think I prefer a cozy couch with cocoa and maybe even a cat’s belly to rub. šŸ™‚
