Help me.

July 24, 2008 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Friends of the Heart, Health & Wellness, Just Me, Minnesota Me 16 Comments

I’m stalling and I can’t get up.

Not only do I have a very long post in the making—my next “Hitting Bottom” installment—I also have one heck of a cold to contend with as I edit.

Will my roommates during this weekend’s conference kick me out for all my hacking?

Will I finish the post before I go?

Stay tuned (but if you do, stay back). I mean it now. I can’t stop coughing.

PS. Prayers and advice are welcome. How does one lick a cold in 24 hours or less?

PPS. I am updating this post to add that I am not going to finish that post by tomorrow. (I fly out at 6:00 a.m.) I will, however, try to bring back a ton of great photos from the conference!

If it’s already taken hold, I don’t know any way to get rid of it quickly – just the usual rest, fluids, and treating the symptoms.

If you were just starting to feel yucky, I know a girl who swears she hasn’t been sick in years because any time she starts to feel like she might be getting sick, she takes a couple of cloves of garlic like they’re pills.

I have not tried it myself, but she swears it works.

I am sorry to inform you that if your Minnesota Bug is the same as this Texas Bug that has been skipping around my family, it is not possible to beat it in 24 hours… try maybe 4 days!!! It’s a doozy! I hope yours is a weaker strain.

Prayers and virtual bowls of chicken soup headed your way. Take care of yourself and we’ll all be waiting for your post when you’re feeling better!

    God Bless,

It figures that you’d get sick just before your big weekend. Hope you feel better quickly! (Drink tea with honey and lemon juice. That’s my cure-all for everything from indigestion to colds! And it works most of the time, too.)

I’m thinking your soon-to-be room mates will welcome you with open arms regardless. I know I would, if I could make it, sniff, sniff.

Wellll, Miss Margaret, I was thinking I’d be excited to cross paths with you IRL, but heck I dunno with that cold and all…..(just kidding)

Very glad to know that we’ll be attending the same conference. Looking forward to meeting you.

How about golden seal, echinacea, a mustard plaster and a stiff shot of brandy followed by 2-4 hours of sleep? I’m not kidding.. The mustard plaster alone will do wonders. Call me and I can tell you what to do.

I don’t have any advice, just hoping you get better, and a sympathy hug. 🙂 I’m hoping to still make it this weekend, and hoping I get to meet you. I’ll make sure to wear my mask though. LOL!

First my advice – take zinc. It works for my husband.

Second, I have to say, I cracked up when I read the title of your entty – all I could think of was the scene in the original movie “The Fly” when the half human/half fly is caught in the spider web and he is calling out “help me, help me!”

Hope you feel better soon. Enjoy the conference.

Have you heard of Emergen-C? Most grocery stores stock it…I once was so sick with a cold with a husband out of town and there was no one who could rescue me, so I took a packet of this stuff every hour and it actually made me better enouch to function and care for my kids. It is magic and we take it now whenever we are feeling the comings on of a cold or anything else. Good luck…I can’t wait for that post you keep alluding to!

Too late for you to take my advice but here is my cold cure.

Go for a run…long enough to get really hot and sweaty.

    Take a long steamy shower.

    Hydrate.

Sleep as long as your body lets you.

    Cold is all gone.
