It’s Snowing!

December 22, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Hearth & Home, Living Liturgically, Minnesota Me 3 Comments

Big, white, fluffy flakes! The dirty gray landscape is no more.

Now if this doesn’t give me cause for joy, I don’t know what would.

And joy is a very good thing.

My friends, I can’t not blog right now.

I have too much on my plate to not be happy, and blah-blah-blogging makes me happy. I’m just…weird that way.

So we are having a good Advent, my family & I.

We are having a hard Advent, to be true, but a very good one.

On Wednesday evening, during family prayer, I safely miscarried.

On Thursday evening, during family prayer, my second youngest daughter lit the Advent candles and we sang all the verses of O Come, O Come Emmanuel.

On Friday evening, during family prayer, I thought about the fudge rum balls that my husband received from his secretary. I thought about their having been hidden away until Christmas on the shelf in the garage, and I felt happy that I knew just where to find them.

For every evening, there’s a season!

Today, then, we will bake. We will bake Santa’s Surprises and pistachio bread. We will bake Mint Cookies, Russian Tea Cakes and Eggnog Thumbprints. We will break to go make snow angels, but above all we will bake.

How else will I repair all the gaps in those garage assortments?

*Updated to add: The Mint Cookies (pictured above) are every bit as delicious as Danielle said they’d be. The Santa’s Surprises took forever but I had helpers (again, see above) and the rest of the cookies? Well, they can wait.

What a wonderful post!! We have made those great cookies too. They stay chewy too, they are the best!!! Is that pistachio bread “green bread”? We just got done giving it to our new neighbors. I would have mailed you some, but not sure if you can mail food, or if it would be in one piece when received!!!

Up here, we did not get any snow, just a nice layer of ice on everything!!! I’m glad you got some more snow, send some up here!!

I am so glad you miscarried safely, I was worried about that.

I am sorry for all that you have been through, but I am glad to hear some peace and joy in your writing.

    Enjoy the season!
