Foolish Pride

October 30, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Hearth & Home, Minnesota Me 10 Comments

Even if I get nothing else of merit done this week, (blogging notwithstanding), I will have cleaned my oven.

Isn’t it pretty?

Seven years living in this house and I have just now discovered the Auto-Clean feature. I should be embarrassed but I’m too proud.

I am terrified of my Self Cleaning oven because it is gas. I have visions of giant KABOOMS every time I even think about turning it on. The fire department already thinks I am “gas obsessed”. I only helped confirm that notion when I called them yet again today!

Hey… that looks like my oven!

    when it’s clean.

which it most definitely is NOT.

It’s so nice to bake in a clean oven, though, isn’t it?

    🙂

Wow! I am very impressed. My oven is still filled with baking soda I used two years ago to put a fire started by my trying to use that nifty self cleaning option. I’m not sure what I expected when I put that on–little gnomes to jump out and throw the flammable chunks out before I nearly burned down the house?

    WOW … it sparkles!

I once had an oven (during my adult life) that was NOT self-cleaning and it was impossible to get clean. Based on the color (avocado green), I am guessing it was a late 60’s, early 70’s model … circa BRADY BINCH TIME 😉

I love self cleaning, but usually can only do it in the cooler months and in the evening when the children are not visible. The heat in the kitchen definitely gets up there.

I have never figured out the auto-clean thingy on my oven. I even had an oven manual that described how to do it once upon a time. It seemed too scary.

    You are not alone!

    Way to go Margaret!
Doesn’t it feel good? Now is the perfect time to start baking. I’ll bring the coffee!

(sigh)Wow, an oven that gets used enough to get dirty…and then needs cleaning. Wow.

Heehee, actually, I cleaned my oven shortly before it went kapoot so I can say ONE good thing about not having an oven for 5 months…at least it stays clean?

OH, and I tried that self-cleaning thingie and my house got so full of smoke, I had to shut it off and never ran it again. I ended up using oven cleaner that was safe for self-cleaning ovens and sprayed a bunch of it in there for a few days. It cleaned up spiffy and has been clean ever since. All the thanks I get for that is my oven telling me “F0”. Hmph.

The only time I ever tried the self-cleaning feature I blew the fuse and was out of electricity for the day.
