Got a Toddler?

August 6, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Keeping It Real, Minnesota Me, Motherhood 17 Comments

If so, this post’s for you.

The following is:

a. a picture of a little girl playing in a field

b. a photographic illustration inspired by this painting

c. an advertisement put out by the Minnesota tourism board

d. an image of the calm before the storm, as in: this little girl just whined and fussed and fretted and screamed her way through a full hour and a half of swim lessons (not her own) because she wasn’t in the water with her siblings (not an option) and because she wasn’t being pumped full of candy from the vending machines to help her past her discontent (also not an option). She then ripped off her diaper in the middle of the mall because it “bugged” her, lifted up her dress in moment of bold defiance, and was quickly wheeled—straight-legged and shrieking—out of the building and to the van.

If you guessed “d” you are right, unfortunately.

And if you’re thinking that the author of this quiz is little more than a quivering mass of a 1000 frayed nerves, you are also absolutely right. Pray for her. A half a pizza and a pint of Haagen-Dazs is sounding really good right now.

Only two weeks of swim camp to go.

Is “lunacy” a new category? I’m surprised you haven’t come up with that one before!

Yes, we have a two year old…

I may have to borrow your new category.

    🙂

Hugs and prayers, and a pint of haagen daas, comin’ right at ya…

Yes, I have a 2 year old…my husband just mentioned swim lessons for the older 2 yesterday and somehow what you described is what I imagined in my mind!

    Prayers for you today!

It’s funny…I haven’t had a two year old for 3 years, but I’m sure my 5yo acted like that at this years swimming lessons!

So funny. Cracking up as I remember, I mean envision, this scene. My precious, sweet toddlers have never done these sorts of things ;o)

There must be something about swimming lessons that just brings out the *best* in a toddler…only three more days of lessons here!

“Christina’s World” was painted in a field not 15 miles from my home in Maine! The farm buildings are still there. I had a similar day. God Bless toddlers and the saints they help their Mommies become!

What? You mean this happens to other people’s kids too?

I was just thinking about the book on St. Frances de Sales I saw discussed on the 4Real Learning forum yesterday, and the excerpt I read:

How holy, my dear daughter, and how agreeable to God we should be, if we knew how to use properly the subjects of mortification that our vocation affords! For they are without doubt greater than among religious; the evil is that we do not make use of them as they do.

And our vocation certainly comes equipped with a lot of them, doesn’t it?

And after we’ve squeezed every drop of “benefit” from these little experiences, I find that a copious amount of chocolate does wonders to soothe the soul… *grin*
