The Movie Version was Better

June 1, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Keeping It Real, Minnesota Me, Real Learning 6 Comments

Lost: One Minnesota mother and her five children. Last seen setting out on a nature walk around the lake. Children were appropriately dressed in shorts and tennis shoes. The mother, however, was still in her “church clothes” from that morning: semi-uncomfortable sandals and a slightly-too-tight rayon skirt. (Don’t ask why. The mother doesn’t know.) Children were last heard saying, “Oh, look at all the turtles!” and “Where does this path go?”

Found (two hours later): One very bedraggled Minnesota mother and her five children, who, having circumnavigated the lake in its entirety, were now the proud owners of….

him.

Upon being questioned, the mother was asked, “Was it all worth it?”

To which the mother replied, “Zzzzzz…..”

Ha! I’m thinking he’s a snapping turtle, Cheryl, (given his pointed beak), though of course none of us have gotten close enough to be sure!

He does indeed look like a snapping turtle….I think I’d let him go back to the pond. I remember as a kid my uncle bringing home a HUGE snapping turtle to clean for turtle soup. He provoked that unhappy turtle to snap a large stick in two pieces and scared us kids silly about our fingers flying off our hands if we put them too close….oh, such a nice uncle! 😉
