Sometimes

May 16, 2007 by Minnesota Mom Filed Under: Minnesota Me, Motherhood 13 Comments

A Play-by-Play of the past 24 Hours (the Highly Abridged Version)

5:00 a.m. Sometimes all I need is a good strong cup of coffee.

10:00 a.m. Sometimes all I need to snap me out of an I’m-really-getting-bored-with-school funk is to take the kids to a children’s museum. My favorite part came when, in the midst of a crowded exhibit, a little kid called out, “Mommy?” and about twenty heads snapped to attention. Great stuff.

2:00 p.m. Sometimes all I need is a good strong cup of coffee.

5:00 p.m. Sometimes all I need to stop compulsively snacking while I’m preparing dinner is to put a piece of gum in my mouth.

9:00 p.m Sometimes all I need to stop fretting about the future is to focus on the super-soft, super-smooth, creamy white arms of my daughter. (She’s four, and has the most beautiful skin I’ve ever seen.) My forearms are tanned and covered with various scars that I got taking things out of the oven. Hers are just perfect—as innocent and pure as she is right now. Tomorrow will take care of itself. Look at this little wonder in front of you right now.

10:00 p.m. Sometimes all I think I need is a good strong of coffee. Sometimes I opt for warm milk with Splenda and a touch of grated nutmeg instead.

5:00 a.m. Sometimes all I need to get myself out of bed in the morning is a husband who’s snoring really loudly beside me.

That and the promise of a good strong cup of coffee.

    🙂

p.s.- we love the Minnesota Children’s museum. Just down the road from Grandma and Grandpa’s house. We’ve been hanging out in the ‘Habitot’ since Aslynn was tiny and just sat on a lily pad throwing gray eggs.

I must admit that a daily second pot of coffee is getting me through these last few weeks! We’re down to counting days.

    A-men to all of those….

(and 4 year-olds’ skin? amazingly soft and plump, I agree)

Off to have my first latte of the day!

    🙂

How fun is this! I never thought of the gum idea. I’ll have to remember that one.

I hope your husband can forgive you for that one! And now, Margaret, thank you. I’m off to make myself a cup of afternoon coffee. Yum!

Sometimes all it takes to get me up in the morning is the thought of a hot cup of tea…(oh, and the snoring husband, too..although he usually gets up before me).
And I have doing the gum trick for years now…though not just before dinner…almost all day long.

This was a riot. Reading about your baking scars had me laughing out loud, probably because on my arms are a few unidentified bruises. I feel so happy when I read your blog.

Coffee is the elixer of life at my house. So, do you sip or glug? I used to sip, but I find I need either to gulp it down or have a java IV to keep me going 🙂
