I have been tagged by Barbara and Matilda to participate in a Lenten meme. I am not worthy, but here goes.
What is your favorite Sorrowful Mystery?
It’s a bit funny, being asked which one of these is my “favorite.”
I think that the 2nd Sorrowful Mystery is very powerful, given that the fruit of the mystery is “to atone for sins of the flesh” and said sins are so very prevalent. Most helpful for me to ponder, however, is the 4th: the Carrying of the Cross.
What is your favorite Station of the Cross?
Definitely the 6th: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus. First of all, what courage! Second, this scene as portrayed in The Passion of the Christ is one that won’t be leaving any of us any time soon, I don’t think. And third, I just love the name Veronica. When I was a very impressionable 23, I saw the movie Dead Poets’ Society. I was as profoundly moved as the director wanted me to be and left the theatre with lofty plans to carpe diem. At the top of my list of things to be seized was a legal name change…something, oh, more artistic…I’ve got it. Veronica Margaret Vaughan.
You can pick yourself up from the floor when you’re done laughing.
Do you fast during Lent?
Can I plead the 5th on this one?
Okay. Like Matilda, I fast on the days that I am required to fast.
However, given my tendency toward all-day grazing, I am a very grumpy fast-er. As such, I think the members of my family are extremely grateful that I leave my fasting to Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Seriously, though? I need to work on this. I believe in the power of prayer and fasting, but I am weak.
What is your Lenten Resolution(s)?
Like you couldn’t guess?
In addition to the areas that I’ve been blatantly whining about, I am doing little things that I try not to crow about. Blogging counts as crowing, don’t you think? So you’re out of luck. I’m not gonna tell.
Do you use Holy Water during Lent?
You bet. We have a font in the hallway by our kitchen, and our toddler keeps it full. (The Poor Souls love her, by the way. She blesses them with her spills a lot.)
How many times do you go to Mass during Lent?
Now we’re getting personal! I don’t know. We go every Sunday as a family, of course, but since becoming a mother to several squirmy midgets, my daily Mass attendance has gone way down. Call me a coward; I’d agree.
In any case, going to daily Mass together is at the top of our list of Lenten resolutions—my husband’s and mine—for what it’s worth.
And we all know what a Mass is worth. It’s priceless.
If you have a blog and want to do this, you’re tagged.
