On Saturday Joe & I were on our way to his therapy. (A date with my son! How lucky am I?) I turned the radio to a local Christian station and the unmistakably rich vocals of Mac Powell filled the car.
You gotta love Third Day.
Thinking to impress my preteen companion, I remarked, “I saw this guy in concert, you know.”
“Oh?” Joe responded.
And then, “Is he still alive?”
I snorted out loud at the implication. No, Joe, he’s long gone. All the musicians I used to listen to are dead, in fact—buried before my children’s time.
That’s how old I am.
Coughing up dust but still rocking,
Love that voice and so many of their songs.
Have you ever seen the movie, JOSHUA? (One of our favorites) They sing it it.
Since I listen to mainly baroque and classical, my kids automatically assume most musicians are dead guys.
I remember the first time someone made me feel old…and I wasn’t yet 30! My eldest niece was about 16 and was trying to describe her boyfriend’s stereo and LP collection:
“They’re kinda like CDs, but they’re big and black and you hafta put this little needle on them!”
Yeah, I know the feeling… Many of my kids are of an age and disposition to make that kind of remark on purpose ~ just to get my goat. Bless their little pea-pickin hearts…
But I have it all over them in music trivia; I know the new bands and the OLD ones, too. But, goodness, Margaret, you’re not old! (Neither am I, for heaven’s sake!)
Sometimes I like to watch Lawrence Welk on PBS. There! I’ve said it! It reminds me of Grandma. Besides . . . Tom Netherton was a hottie. Probably still is.
I linked here from Aussie Therese’s sidebar; your title caught my eye.
What a funny comment! My kids are still six and younger but I have a brother and sister who are sixteen. I get the distinct impression that they think my 30 is very old.
Cheers from Nebraska! 🙂
That is great! My kids laugh because I know every musical, every song from the 20’s through the 60’s, but beyond that I am clueless. It is great to be different.

I’m going back to school and taking a Music Theory Course. Last night the Prof has us start a time line of western music. Going backwards by decade one student said it was getting harder when we got to the 70’s. I had to tell the kid “No its getting easier!”I’m the old lady in the group again.
HA! Oh this gave me such a laugh. Thank you Joe.
Oh dear… Mac Powell actually lives not too far from me. A couple of years ago I saw him with his kids at the gymnastics place where I take my daughter. I knew for sure it was him, because I had just been to a concert. I left him alone, though.
Love Third Day!
LOL!! My oldest is always making jokes about how old his parents are (despite the fact that he’s only 18 years younger than I am!) – his most recent one was actually pretty clever.
We like to hook the laptop up to the bigscreen tv so we can watch youtube clips together as a family (particularly muppet ones)… For some reason when we did this the other day everything but the color went through to the tv – so the clips were in black and white — immediately my oldest quipped:
“Mom, you and Dad are so old you watched youtube in black and white!”
LOL! I was pretty amused…

Barefoot, too, I’m sure. Since shoes probably had not yet been invented. ;o)
Ha! Very funny. 🙂
