Newsflash: I was invited to join a book club, and will now (apparently) be asked to read big chunky books like Jane Eyre and The Odyssey.
I can’t WAIT.
The good news is, I love to read but don’t always make time for it. Now I’ll have a great excuse!
The bad news is, my date with the treadmill may get pushed back a bit.
The best news is, there is room in our book club for a few more members! So if you’re local and think you’d like to join, shoot me an email @ mom4life[at]comcast[dot]net.
PS. I really haven’t made time for exercise, and until I do, that there scale won’t budge.
PPS. Does a well-read mind weigh even more?
Oh, how I wish I live close by, just starting to read Jane Eyre but anyways, I think you can do both, read and move but not at the same time. Check out my blog, let me know ur thoughts. Have a blessed day! http://catholicmomfitforlife.wordpress.com/
Linda invited me to join, too, but the first meeting didn't work for me … Let me know when your next meeting is, so I can get it on my calendar. I wonder if I should figure out the book list and begin on my own? What do you think? Should I follow-up with Linda? (I admit, chunky books, like The Odyssey, intimidate me!)
Linda told me that you'd joined, Sarah. Made my night knowing that we'll get to see each other every month (fingers crossed)! Yes, get started with the Flannery O'Connor readings. They're available online through the Well-Read Mom website: http://www.wellreadmom.com/books/year-of-mother-books/
OK! Thanks, Margaret! Can't wait to see you!
I'm so glad you're doing The Well-Read Mom! My location in Northern MN is the "charter" group of women who began the club last year. It has been a huge blessing to read, and sometimes only attempt to read, books that really open the heart of a mother. I wrote a short reflection for the Reader's Companion for one of the books this year, too. Have fun!
Mallory, that's wonderful! We talked about your group at our first meeting. š
I went to read your reflection after getting this comment. It's lovely, but that story sounds…intimidating! Yikes. Suffering.
You can do it!! It was hard for me to read, too, because of the suffering. My baby daughter was born only a few days before your little guy, but she has had many health problems. For me, reading about the suffering of others really helped me to process my own pain and grief. Sometimes I just have to tell myself "Alright, this is supposed to be great Catholic literature, let's try to have it do something for my soul." Good luck!
I have never EVER heard anyone say "I wish I had spent less time reading…"
Plus, if you used the treadmill more often, you would not have anything to dust on dusting day! š
Happy Page-Turning!
A friend used to "walk off her baby weight" by reading while she was on the treadmill. She'd only let herself read while walking and she would get the large print books from the library. I tried it but it makes me feel seasick to walk and read at the same time. Just a thought. Happy reading!
I was going to suggest reading on the treadmill too. If it works out, let me know. I've got some "I love cookies, and was so thrilled to finally be able to eat them after gestational diabetes" weight that I need to tackle myself.
I am positively GREEN. I want to come!!!
Any chance your meetings are on the weekends since I finally GOT A JOB! Seriously, let me know.
Jenn, that's awesome! Congratulations!!
Unfortunately, we meet on Thursday evenings. I would have loved to have you join us.
Margaret, I am so very glad that you are back to blogging and doing better! I had severe depression for two years, and later learned that it was associated with my hormones and having a baby in my 40s. Even though I don't know you, I have been praying for you! Linda L.
Linda, that is so kind. Thank you! Please be assured of my prayers, too.
Wish I was more local!
